Welcome to Beta U
An 8 week group training program for climbers who want to progress their performance and push out of their comfort zone with support and guidance.
Climbing holds a special place in our lives. And your experience with climbing is special to you.
To step up to a climb, challenge your body, and put yourself out there is a unique experience. And there’s a natural desire to continually push ourselves in the sport.
When most of us think about training for climbing, we think of pull ups, finger boarding, and getting pumped beyond belief. But in climbing there’s so much more than just physical strength.
There’s flowing through movement. There’s digging deep and trying hard. There’s you and the rock.
But it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly how to improve what’s happening on the wall.
And when we don’t understand what’s happening on the wall we may:
get frustrated easily on tricky or difficult moves, and give up too quickly
make excuses for why we aren’t succeeding and fall back to climbs in our comfort zone
rely too heavily on the opinions of others making it difficult to feel confident when climbing alone
Does that sound like you?
You love climbing and are excited to improve, but feel overwhelmed when you try to figure out just how to do that?
You see how everyone else is training, but don’t know how to create your own path for your own goals?
You feel unclear on where to focus your energy, and it leads to fear of committing to a program?
I’ve been where you are.
Hi, I’m Juliet!
I remember hitting my first plateau and feeling like my progress had come to a screeching halt. I came to realize it was time to add structure and training to my climbing routine. I was beyond excited to take that next step to push myself, and I felt ready, willing, and able to put in the time and energy to get where I wanted to be.
But then the first training program I ever followed didn’t work for me…
I had a friend who was an accomplished climber willing to create a plan for me. He had successfully followed his own training plans for years, and I was grateful he took the time to put together a spreadsheet for me. It had all of the same workouts and exercises he performed. I thought, "if it works for him, it will work for me.
Turns out what worked for him resulted in overtraining for me. Having never trained before, I was completely exhausted by the 6 days of workouts per week. I was doing exercises that I had never done before and, looking back, was using poor form on. I needed to take a full two weeks off after the plan and ended up even further away from my goals.
This experience played a large role in why I became a climbing coach.
I realized the overwhelming amount of information about training out there. And while it’s possible to DIY a training plan by taking a chapter from a book here, an exercise suggestion from an article there, and trying to put it together like “the pros do”… training for climbing is not one size fits all. We are individuals who respond to training differently, and many programs out there
Don’t take into account that the ideal amount of training volume is different for everybody, and end up prescribing gigantic and exhausting sessions.
Don’t allow schedule flexibility for rest and recovery, which can result in training stress stacking up quickly and overtraining.
Don’t provide appropriate exercise modifications to scale the workout, and the intensity ends up being incorrect for the desired training goal.
I wanted to do things differently.
Not only did I want to create amazing and effective training programs that cater to the individual, but I also wanted to create a community where climbers could train for their personal goals while supporting each other.
At the end of the day, we’re all human.
We balance work and play. Our emotional energy is affected by what’s happening in our personal lives as well as the world at large. We’re humans before we are climbers.
I wanted to hold space for that.
This is why I created
An 8 week group climbing training program for climbers who want to train for their personal goals in a supportive community environment.
What Beta U Graduates have to say:
“I appreciated how the Beta U cohort was able to interact with and support each other during the modules. I learned how to create a long-term climbing plan for myself. I feel like that was one thing I’ve always wanted to do, but never really knew how to execute. In addition, I now know how to have a healthier mindset and use better strategies for projecting. Lastly, I am now utilizing better techniques in my climbing thanks to the technique portion of Beta U.”
— Melanie B
“Beta U is a safe space to learn and grow together. I realize that community and peer feedback from others in that safe space is VERY VALUABLE. I normally train solo so I have my own goals and training sequences to follow but often I'd encounter unwanted feedback or beta from others (if training at a public space). Beta U is the space and time I am comfortable being vulnerable and receiving feedback. This is what I enjoy about Beta U the most.”
— Vanessa V
“I felt comfortable sharing my experiences and building community with others. Sharing experiences with each other and receiving/giving feedback was my favorite part of Beta U. I would recommend Beta U to others who are looking for community outside their own physical climbing environment. I loved meeting new people from all over the country and the world- people with various experiences in climbing and life outside of climbing.”

What you will learn:
Beta U has 8 educational modules where you will learn about both the physical and mental aspects of climbing. These modules are prerecorded and released weekly so you can watch them on your own schedule. They will also be the topic for our weekly interactive group coaching calls.
The modules and group coaching calls will help you to gain: understanding, experience, and confidence.
Understanding: you will walk away from Beta U with a new awareness around your climbing movement. You will feel like you understand what’s happening on the wall, how to break down tricky moves, and have the patience to adjust body positions for success.
Experience: During this program, you will practice your climbing technique on the wall and you will practice your movement understanding with the group. The saying goes "we fail at the margins of our experience" and this program is all about expanding those margins to set you up for success.
Confidence: Mental confidence is key for pushing yourself physically. Confidence is so important for breaking out of your comfort zone, approaching new projects, and committing to challenging moves.

FAQs
1. Is there a climbing level you recommend for this program?
There is a range of ability levels that will benefit from this program. If you are climbing anywhere from V2/3 all the way up to V7/8, you will gain a lot from Beta U. If you're outside of this range, the VIP program or 1:1 coaching may be a better fit for you. However, if you feel like you heavily rely on strength and know you can really benefit from better understanding technique and movement, this program could still be a good fit.
2. Should I do the VIP program?
If you are looking for more support and coach guidance, the VIP option will be a great fit for you. On our calls, we will make a plan for your program and customize it week by week. Along with the personalized workouts, you’ll also have access to Voxer, a voice messaging app. Here, you’ll be able to ask questions at any time, and we can work through frustrations and celebrate wins together!
3. How does the program work in a group setting?
There will be weekly group coaching calls where we will discuss the topic from the lesson that week and I will be available to answer any questions. This will be an interactive and collaborative call where group members can share their experiences as well as share advice.
There will also be an online platform where the group will be able to interact. You'll be able to share videos with each other, ask questions, bounce beta ideas around, etc. There will be norms around how we communicate in the group to ensure a healthy and supportive community!
4. What if gyms aren't open where I am?
You will need regular access to climbing for this program. If gyms aren't open where you are, a homewall and/or outdoor climbing will also work. Each week we will be practicing the skills that we learn about in the educational modules, so regular access to climbing is important.
